Cefirus.com is an open marketplace for independent digital content creators of any kind. Our purpose is to help indie creators to publish and distribute their content, allowing them to focus on what they do the best, create. This way, there is no requirement for the creators to invest on having their own website, or having to sell on one of the current mainstream stores that keep a high share of the income, not paying the creators what they really deserve for their hard work.
The three fundamental pillars that drive every action taken by the Cefirus.com team are:
We believe that from every sale we make, the highest possible share has to go for the content creator, Cefirus.com is a tool, but the real value comes from our providers, indie creators from all around the world.
From every product sold, our payments processor (PayPal at the moment) applies a fee. Of the remaining money, at least 80% goes for the content creator. There are special cases were we allow creators to keep until 100% of income after payment fees. Cefirus.com gets at, at most, 20% of the money, the minimum quantity required to pay for all technical infrastructure required for our store to work. At the moment, the Cefirus Team is not getting any money from the platform, all money we recieve is used to pay store expenses.
Maybe the term DRM is not familiar for you, but is something you are suffering everyday and goes unnoticed by many people. As for an easy to understand definition, the guys from DefectiveByDesign define it as follows:
What is DRM?
Digital Restrictions Management is the practice of imposing technological restrictions that control what users can do with digital media. When a program is designed to prevent you from copying or sharing a song, reading an ebook on another device, or playing a single-player game without an Internet connection, you are being restricted by DRM. In other words, DRM creates a damaged good; it prevents you from doing what would be possible without it. This concentrates control over production and distribution of media, giving DRM peddlers the power to carry out massive digital book burnings and conduct large scale surveillance over people's media viewing habits.
If we want to avoid a future in which our devices serve as an apparatus to monitor and control our interaction with digital media, we must fight to retain control of our media and software.
You could get an alternative defintion at Wikipedia: Digital rights management
Some examples of how DRM harms you
So, now that you know that DRM is a bad thing for you, lets list some examples of how it damages you:
- What happens when a game that is sold on a DVD protected with anti-copy technology, when the DVD gets scratched simply by common usage?
You lose access to the game you paid for.
- What happens if you lose the manual of your game, where serial is written on? (But you still have the original DVD!)
You lose access to the game you paid for.
- What happens if you have games installed on your PC from one of the current available mainstream stores, but try to play without internet connection?
Without internet usage authorization could not be performed, so you can't play with the game you have installed on your computer and that you have paid for.
- What happens if your favorite mainstream store servers go offline?
You can't play any of the games you bought from them!
- What would happen if you favorite mainstram store goes out of business for any reason?
You will lose all your payed products, as they do not allow you to have an offline backup of your bought products.
- What happens if you buy a BluRay disc of your favorite movie, and want to see it on your mobile phone?
That is not possible. Despite having payed for a consumer license of the product, you are restricted to watch it only on a BluRay player, not being allowed by anti-copy systems to make a copy of the film to watch it on your own mobile phone (being this a legitimal usage)
We could continue with much more examples, but sure you already have an idea of what DRM means.

As something that damages our customers, we are totally AGAINST DRM. You will never find a product in our store that uses this kind of technologies. Every single product on Cefirus.com is a DRM-Free product, that you could download and keep forever.
It doesn't matter if a nuclear weapon destroys our servers (hopefully not :P) or we get out of business, you could keep a copy of every product you have payed for, to enjoy it forever. You could also enjoy you products without requiring a working internet connection. You could play despite not having internet at home, or going on a trip to the mountain, simply go first to a place were you could have internet connection (your town library, for example), download the product files and forget about any requirement that could prevent you from enjoying the product.
For us, out customers and our providers are the most important thing. We are not into this for money (as stated above, we are not getting any money for us), but to help the community, to bring customers and indie creators closer together, and to be a tool for making your lives easier.
We love to receive your emails! It doesn't matter if it is feedback, a complaint or a message asking for help, we love talking with our customers, and always answer you with the personalized treatment and love you deserve.
